Deputy Tim Macon and Bobby Smith had been in love with one another for years, since Bobby was a teenager. They couldn't speak of or act on their feelings, however. Bobby was jailbait. While Tim waited for him to reach an age so he could share his feelings, Bobby developed an attitude and a penchant for getting in trouble.
