Sanctuary — Susan Hart

In a post-apocalyptic world, a woman tries to create an ark sanctuary, where she gathers a few pairs of the remaining animals left on earth. The only problem is how to protect it from the ravenous hordes roaming outside. This is a gentle story, with a nice twist at the end.
