“Just a curious question. When you said undead… what do you mean?” asked Albert.

Julianna had looked like she did not want to answer at first. Like whatever the answer was, it would not be wise to talk about it. But she finally talked.

“When you get to live longer than a soul can possibly and even magickally hold a body, we call that person undead. Nothing in him could already be considered human â€" Magickal or otherwise. It is beyond the realm of any system we know. He is not part of the living, or the dead.”

“There are people like him?”

“Talk of them is as fickle as stories handed down â€" you can't ever be sure they are real or not unless you meet them. And I know no one who's ever done that. I consider them a myth.”

“Magickal Soul Mates are myth,” Elena countered. “Yet, we exist.”

Julianna smiled at her daughter reassuringly. “As well as records of you and others that lived before our time. People do know your existence. It's just that for a while we all thought none has come back or saw each other again in their new lifetimes. Records show you exist. But the undead…” Julianna slowly shook her head. “They are the subject of speculations. They are the stuff in stories whispered in the dark. Having someone survive enough to become one is virtually an impossibility. Noone can just be that powerful â€" or that evil â€" to hold that kind of power.”

“What kind of power?” asked husband and wife both, at the same time.
