“Oh, you're not innocent. Not one bit.”
Jayden gasped. “What-what do you mean by that?”
He couldn't stop himself as his hands cupped her cheek. Her skin was soft, and her full lips parted in surprise at his action. What had come over him? She frowned as she removed his hand from her face.
Shit. Did he whimper at the loss of contact?
“Look, I know you feel responsible for the house's burning.” Jayden hugged herself again. “But there was something evil in your house. You said your living room was vandalized.”
It shook him back to the reality of the situation. “You can read me now?”
Jayden gave him a slow look from his shoes to his face. “Anyone can read you right now. Perfectly, I might add.”
“All right. I feel responsible,” he confessed, and tried not to think about whether or not she spied the hardening of his phallus in his slacks. Not that he had issues getting women into his bed, but Jayden brought a mixture of everything he had fought against his whole life -- a glimpse into another world he'd denied even existed. She could be connected to the very fire that destroyed Gavin's home, and she could be a suspect in vandalizing his own house.
This intoxicating woman of contradictions and salvation held him spellbound. He couldn't deny that any longer.
