An Ancient Egyptian handmaiden finds herself at a remote oasis in the Sahara. She can remember attending the Pharaoh’s funeral, but why is she here? And why is one of the palace cats sitting beside her? As time passes, the peace of her oasis is disturbed by strange soldiers, from another time and country. She finds she is on the fringes of a conflict that she cannot understand, guided only by an RAF pilot who has come to Egypt from a country far to the north. She and her cat are drawn to Cairo, into a war fought not in the desert but in the restaurants and nightclubs of the modern capital. Spies, dancing girls, counterfeiters, terrorists, all make Cairo a very dangerous place. Will her pilot be able to guide her safely through the dangers?
