Summary: After nearly a hundred years of fighting between the newly-exposed vampires and the humans, a tentative peace was reached. It is 2167, a little over three decades after that first truce and the peace, though shaky, has lasted. The humans have retreated into their walled cities while the vampires have done the same. Yet the treaty also dictates that the vampires are allowed send out armed soldiers to reclaim all humans who are not safely ensconced in their cities by nighttime for night is their domain. Adair knows he's not supposed to be outside the protective city walls after dark. Frankly, when he decided to skip work and go fishing in a secluded county pond, it had not been his intention to fall asleep. When he wakes up and finds himself face to pale, creepy face with a vampire, he knows he's in serious trouble. Being enslaved by a clan of vampires was never really his idea of a good time. Caelin is the Captain of a retrieval unit of the Vampire guard on the brink of being promoted to Major. He's taking a group of new recruits on their very first mission to find and bring back any humans who might have gotten trapped outside the city.
