Excerpt:
“Read ‘em and weep,” I said, spreading my hand on the table. Three of a kind.
Jesse rested his chin in his hand, his eyes passing to Danny. Dan sighed, tapping his cards on the table.

“Come on, Dan. Don't be a pussy,” I teased, nudging him with my foot.

“Shit,” Dan said, his shoulders dropping. His hair fell forward to shield his face, and he shook his head. “I'm sorry, Lizzie.”

“What are you sorry for?”

“I'm sorry you had to lose!” he suddenly exclaimed. He tossed his hand onto the table. “Royal flush, bitch!”

I gaped at his hand. He had an ace, jack, king, queen, and ten of hearts. It was the first time I had seen someone get a royal flush in my life.

“You cheated!” I protested as Jesse cackled.

“Bro!” he said, clapping Dan on the shoulder.

Dan's shoulders shook with his suppressed laughter. His cheeks turned a little pink, reminding me briefly of the days when we used to have sleepovers, before we got old enough for them to be awkward. “Well, you know the deal.” He nodded at my clothes. “Strip.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “This isn't fair.”

“You're right, it isn't fair. Everybody else played the game but you.”

I felt my bottom lip poking out. I couldn't help it, it always happened when I was around the two guys. They brought out my inner brat.

“Okay, okay,” Jesse said, raising his hands. “How about we strike a new deal? Dan and I will take a shot for each item of clothing you remove.”

I cast my eyes downward, pondering. I was still wearing my Freeway Diner uniform. If I counted my apron, shoes, and socks as separate clothing items, the guys had seven shots to go before they got to see me in my fully-nude glory. “You got yourself a deal.”
