After surviving a brutal attack by her father, twelve-year-old Charlene is sent to a foster home. There she meets the woman in charge, Miss Anton, and three other foster girls, Mooky, Jay and Angie. The eldest, Angie, has a secret that none of the other girls know about. Only Miss Anton knows and she goes through a lot of trouble to hide it from everybody. What is the secret, and what will happen to Charlene when she discovers it?
