Alice had never seen a rabbit in a waistcoat with a pocket watch. But she did have a very tiny sprite that appeared randomly at her ear. Sometimes she whispered warnings; other times, they shared laughter. But having an invisible sprite for a friend caused less than friendly talk. A mysterious guardian had placed her with a religious family in the Pacific Northwest. For the most part, they ignored her. She was given hand-me down clothing, a small room and food. She had the initiative to find part-time jobs with several merchants around the dock area. She wandered the city, explored the library and lost herself in books. Meeting Jonathon Tremayne had been like coming to a solid thud at the bottom of the rabbit hole. At that point, her life managed to become more and more complicated.
