“You're lucky all they did was to leave those photos.” Brock shook his head and gave her a chagrined look. “I should never have left you out of my sight.”

“Don't say that.” Portia moved closer to him again, slipping her arms around his waist. “I'm lucky to have you in my life right now. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have protecting me.”

“You've come to mean a great deal to me.” He kissed the top of her head and squeezed her tight. “I'm so happy we ran into each other again. I used to be so in love with you back in college.”

“I know you were,” she said, smiling. “I think I loved you, too, but it was all so confusing back then. When I met Gideon, I had to make a choice, and although I don't regret that decision, I always wished I hadn't had to lose you as a friend as well.”

Brock lifted her chin and leaned down to kiss her on the lips. He broke away after a moment and said “We've found each other now, and that's all that counts,” before kissing her again....
